Jeremy Awori

Jeremy Awori is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at ABSA Kenya. He joined Absa (formerly Barclays Bank Kenya) in February 2013. Awori has established himself as one of the most reputable names in the finance and banking sector.

 

Prior to joining Barclays, he held various positions within Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) where he was the CEO of SCB Tanzania (2008 to 2012); Regional Sales and Performance Director of SCB for Middle East, South Asia and Africa (2005 to 2008); Head of Consumer Banking in SCB UAE (2003 to 2005). Other positions held at SCB include Executive Director and Head of Consumer Banking for East Africa. In addition to his responsibilities, Jeremy is a Director of ABSA Financial Services Limited (AFSL); Barclays Financial Services Limited (BFSL); Barclays Bank Insurance Agency Limited (BBIAL); Barclays Kenya (Nominees) Limited; Barclays Deposit-Taking Microfinance Limited; First Assurance Company Limited and First Assurance Holdings Limited. Jeremy is also a Board member of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the former Chairman of the Kenya Bankers Association where he currently sits on their governing council.

Pauline Mbayah

Pauline Mbayah, serves as Executive Director/ Head of Stanbic Kenya Foundation.  She is an international development professional with over 20 years of experience across Sub-Saharan Africa providing leadership to various United Nations agencies, international development organizations, philanthropic institutions as well as private sector companies.

 

She is responsible for directing and overseeing all policies, strategy, objectives, and initiatives related to the foundation’s activities in Kenya and South Sudan. Prior to her current role, Pauline served as Director of strategy and partnerships at the African Enterprise Challenge Fund, where she was responsible for forging strategic partnerships that would provide development finance to support the early stages of growth for companies across multiple African countries.

 

She is a certified Market Systems (M4P) practitioner and a founding board member of UNDP’s Impact@Africa Network. She is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).

Winnie Ouko

Winnie Ouko is the founder and CEO of Lattice Consulting (member of Larive International) a Kenya-based boutique advisory firm committed to propelling its clients to growth via strategy and finance advisory and corporate training. She is also a non-executive director at Safaricom PLC.

 

She has over 25 years of professional finance, strategy, and board level experience, serving corporates and non-profits in Africa, Europe, and the US.  Winnie’s career includes a stint as an Associate Director at Standard and Poor’s in New York, and Price Water House Coopers in Nairobi.

 

She sits on the Board of the Kenya Pooled Water Fund, has served on the board of Absa (Kenya), chairing the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee; and has been a Trustee for the Worldwide Fund for Nature, Switzerland (which oversees 70+ programs and country offices around the world).

 

She is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).

Gavin Bell

Gavin Bell is the Director Of Business Development & Marketing at Tamarind Management Ltd. He is the Overseer of the Tamarind Team that set up and established Roast by Carnivore Brand as well as setting up the Tamarind Tree Hotel F&B Department.

 

He is also the owner of African Franchise Partners which is a franchise consultancy specializing in emerging franchise markets in Kenya. He is a proprietor and director at Kengele’s Bistro and Bar. He previously worked as the General Manager at Kuku Foods Limited where established, set up and operated the KFC franchise in Kenya.

 

He is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). 

Francis Mugisha

Francis Mugisha is the founder and Managing Director of Management Consult Associates which is a niche-consulting firm providing solutions to unlock performance as well as sustainable value across institutions.

 

Francis Mugisha is a Chartered Management Accountant, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). He has previously served as the President of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (iCPAR) in addition to having served as the Vice-president on the institute’s first governing council in Rwanda.

 

He is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).

Andrew Rugege

Andrew Rugege is an experienced thought leader with a demonstrated history of working in the digital industry at Global, Regional and National levels. He has worked as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Director for Africa and Representative to the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

 

Prior to ITU, Andrew served as COO at MTN and CEO at Artel Communications both in Rwanda. He previously served as Director of International Business Development at ABSinteractive, USA and Global IT Services Coordinator at United Bible Societies, UK.

 

He is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).

Rosette Rugamba

Country: Rwanda

Rosette Chantal Rugamba is founder and Managing Director of Songa Africa and Amakoro Songa Lodge, an East African tourism and hospitality company. She was recently appointed to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) international board. She also serves on the board of Women for the Environment Africa, a body whose aim is to empower women leaders working in conservation in Africa.

 

She previously served as Director General of Rwanda tourism where she spearheaded the revitalization of the Rwandan tourism sector between 2003 and 2010. She has also served as Deputy CEO of Rwanda Development Board, special advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization on sustainable tourism in Africa and a member of the Global Ethics committee at the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

 

Ms. Rugamba has also served as a board member of African Parks and Trademark East Africa and is an active member of the Rwanda Private Sector Federation. She is a trustee of the World Wide Fund for Nature. She is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). 

Prof Margaret Kigozi

Prof Mragaret Kigozi is the chairperson of Akina Mama wa Afrika. She is a medical doctor by profession, a business consultant, a Chancellor at Nkumba University and an “avid” motorcycle rider! In Uganda, she’s better known for her work as the Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) from 1999-2011. 

 

She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and has practiced as a physician in Zambia, Kenya and Uganda. In 1994, Dr. Maggie left the medical profession and joined Crown Bottlers Uganda Limited (manufacturers of Pepsi products) as the Marketing Director where she worked until her appointment at the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) in 1999. Dr Maggie is the first woman ever to hold this position.

 

Dr. Maggie is a celebrated trailblazer for women and girls in Uganda and provides mentorship and support for young women leaders in entrepreneurship, climate change, scouting and sportswoman-ship. She is currently a member of Uganda’s National Dialogue Process.

 

She is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). 

Maria Odido Difonzo

Country: Uganda

Maria Odido Difonzo is the Chief Executive Officer of Bee Natural Uganda Ltd. which is a leading bee products processor in East Africa. The company’s flagship product is honey. It also processes propolis and carries out value addition to beeswax. Maria played a leading role in having Uganda registered in the European Food Commission as a country exporting honey to the EU. This resulted in Uganda being granted a license in 2006 to export honey and other bee products to the EU market. 

 

Ms Maria is not only an accomplished entrepreneur, spanning a total of 28 years in business, but she is also a distinguished luminary. She has received several awards in the course of her career. She received the Presidential Order of the Crested Crane – the highest civilian award for meritorious service and contribution to the courses of humanity and national development. 

 

Maria has been involved in the leadership of so many organizations, NGOs and business-oriented ventures as a Board Member, Lead Member and Advisor. She is a Member of the Rotary International, a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative – East Africa (ALI-EA) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN).
